Castro up to Corpus Christi

Catcher Jason Castro, Houston's first pick in last summer's draft, has been promoted to AA. The announcement was made after Lancaster's game on Sunday. Castro becomes the second players taken in the 2008 draft to reach Corpus Christi. He joins reliever Daniel Meszaros.

Great to see Castro getting promoted. I like how aggressive the Astros have been promoting guys (Lo, Castro, Mezaros, Tilgman). Do you think any of the starters from Lexington will end up in Lancaster by year end?

it is definitely more interesting to see guys moving up. A poster on Spikes n Stars heard Ed Wade on KTRH in Houston and he indicated that some guys would be going up from Lexington. I would think if anyone it will be Seaton and Bono or Greenwalt. It seems like I read a rumor that the Astros will be avoiding putting the young arms in California because of the hitter's parks. I guess time will tell.

Let me get this right, you heard that the some of the young starters may skip HiA and go to CC. Isn't Corpus a hitters park too, and in more of a hitters league?

to clarify the third-hand information I read...Ed Wade was on KTRH in Houston and he indicated that some of the Lexington arms would be on their way to Lancaster before too long. At the same time, information in Zach Levine's Minor League notebook of May 26 (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bb/6440951.html) seems to indicate that the Astros may hold off until next season to send some arms to California. I guess they may also see if they are ready for AA in 2010 as well.

With the # of 2008 starting pitchers, it may be wise just to hold the Lexington guys back until they are ready to jump A+ to AA. Between the Lexington 5 and Wolf, Duncan, and Hicks at Lancaster, that should be next year's AA and A+ rotations. The guys in Corpus (Perez, Trinidad, James, Hudspeth) better step up soon or they'll be forgotten.
