Astros' Draft in Review... 2007

Much has been made about the debacle that was the Astros' 2007 draft. They failed to sign their first two picks and lost two other picks because they had signed Woody Williams and Carlos Lee. In light of this fact, that any talent at all remains from that class is notable.

Round Rock
Collin DeLome, OF

Corpus Christi
Brian Wabick, P

Lancaster
Albert Cartwright, IF
Kyle Greenwalt, P

Lexington
Colton Pitkin, P

Disabled
Brian Pellegrini, 1B/OF

Traded
Robert Bono, P traded to acquire Matt Lindstrom

A note about this draft. The top three picks who did not sign: Dietrich (Georgia Tech); Eibner (Arkansas); and Bettis (Texas Tech) are all draft eligible again this year.

June 3- Review of Astros' 2008 Draft
June 5- Review of Astros' 2009 Draft
June 7- Draft begins with first round and supplemental picks
June 8- Farmstros Baseball Listening/Twitter Experience during Lexington game at 10 a.m Houston time. Draft coverage to be included.

Considering they didn't sign anybody in the first four rounds, that's actually not a bad haul. DeLome could be a decent big league bench player, Greenwalt still has a shot at reaching his #3 starter potential, Albert Cartwright has had a couple of good seasons and is tearing up the Cal League right now, and Bono got us a lights out closer under team control for three more years.

For all the talk about how terrible 2007 was, I'm impressed with what we got out of it.
