Minor League MVP Night

Sign of things to come?
Tonight at Minute Maid Park
Lyles and Martinez

I scribbled this haiku on a napkin at Minute Maid Park during the Astros Minor League MVP ceremony Saturday night. My son and I could only stay through the 4th inning as I had to go work the graveyard shift, but I can honestly say that we did more in four innings than most people do in a whole game.

- Got Jordan Lyles and J.D. Martinez's autograph on a ball (My son was a bit upset when Appy Astros got a Jordan Lyles ball a few weeks ago, so this settled that score)
- Delivered a copy of THE QUEST FOR 3000 SYLLABLES to Zach Levine (Since I am name dropping, I had to enlist Brian McTaggart's help to get Levine out of the press box. Thanks, Tags)
- Hob-knobbed with Lyles' agent, Lee Long... Found out that Lyles is scheduled to be at a card show in Houston sometime in January
- Met Steve who read about the Minor League event on Farmstros Saturday morning. Steve got his official Farmstros magnet
- Saw the pre-game ceremony. Lyles, Martinez, and Omar Lopez were on the field. The team also announced the affiliate MVPs and had pictures of those players on the big screen (That's right, I saw a picture of Francisco Baso!)
- Thanks to Richard Tapia in the ticket office, found our seats, where we definitely didn't need binoculars
- Saw a starting lineup that included recent Farmstros: Castro, Wallace, Johnson and Bogusevic
- Even though we left after four innings, saw Henry Villar pitch
- And speaking of Astros of the Past, we got two Biggio Bobble Head dolls!

All in all, it was a special way to wrap up the 2010 season.
