If you've ever collected baseball cards and if you're looking for some reading to pass the time until Spring Training begins, I'd like to direct your attention to a book called CARDBOARD GODS by Josh Wilker from Seven Footer Press.
Wilker tells the story of growing up in Vermont. Each chapter of his tale is launched by a particular baseball card that he collected between 1975 and 1981. Having personally collected cards intensely at the same time Wilker did, it was interesting to see how some of the same cards I once held in my hand, played such a major role in every aspect of Wilker's unique childhood experience. For Astros fans, there are appearances by Mike Cosgrove, Bo McLaughlin and J.R. Richard.
For the sake of full disclosure, a college classmate of mine works for Seven Footer Press, and he provided me with a review copy of the book. However, I am not getting anything beyond that for mentioning this book here.
