Brian McTaggart(yes, him again) is reporting that Clint Barmes has agreed to a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates. This marks the likely end of the Ronny Cedeno era at PNC Park. However, more importantly for the Farmstros Village, due to the fact that Barmes is a Type B free agent, it means the Astros will get an additional compensatory pick in the 2012 draft if Barmes signs by Wednesday. The pick would fall between the first and second rounds.
Barmes was acquired prior to the 2011 season for Felipe Paulino, meaning Ed Wade may well be in the process of turning Felipe Paulino into a high draft pick. The last time the Astros were compensated for the loss of a Type B free agent was the 2008 Draft when Jordan Lyles was selected with a pick received for the loss of Trever Miller.
