With the Astros' 1st pick in the 2012 draft less than seven weeks away, here's a quick looks at the top five players the Astros have selected in the first rounds of the first 47 years of drafts.
THE TOP PERFORMER:
Craig Biggio- drafted 22nd over-all in 1987. Biggio made his Astros debut in 1988 and was with Houston until retiring in 2007. Among the highlights of his career, 3060 hits, 668 doubles, 414 stolen bases, 1844 runs, 1175 RBI.
The Other Four:
J.R. Richard- drafted 2nd over-all in 1969. Richard made his Astros debut in 1971 and was with Houston until 1980. He recorded 107 wins and posted a career 3.15 ERA. He had 19 shutouts, 76 complete games and 1493 career strikeouts.
Lance Berkman- drafted 6th over-all in 1997. Berkman made his Astros debut in 1999 and stayed with Houston until 2010. Through the 2011 season, Berkman's big league totals were 1828 hits, 407 doubles, 358 home runs, 1194 RBI and a .296 batting average.
Billy Wagner- drafted 12th over-all in 1993. Wagner made his Astros debut in 1995 and was with Houston until 2003. In his big league career, Wagner recorded 422 saves and had 1196 strikeouts in a little over 900 innings.
Todd Jones- drafted 27th over-all in 1989. Jones made his Astros debut in 1993 and was with Houston until 1996. Over his 16-year big league career he posted 319 saves in almost 1000 appearances.
