Apparently building one baseball franchise in the Houston area isn't enough for Tal Smith. Smith, who was one of the original employees of the Houston Colt .45s, has been named as Special Advisor to Opening Day Partners. Opening Day Partners is the parent company of the Sugar Land Skeeters, which is preparing to bring indepedent league baseball to the Houston suburbs starting this Thursday.
Smith has spent 35 years with the Colt .45s/Astros over his 54-year career in baseball. Most recently, Smith was Houston's President of Baseball Operations from 1994-2011. He will be advising the Opening Day Partners on many aspects of their business including the Skeeters and new locations for Atlantic League expansion.
