Hooks pitcher Erick Abreu was slow and steady when he drew a walk with two outs in the top of the 9th inning in San Antonio Wednesday afternoon. However, La Tortuga resembled El Conejo when he scored from second base on Ryan McCurdy's single later in the inning to give Corpus Christi and 10-9 lead.
The Hooks added another run and won the game 11-9, giving Abreu the 17th victory in his Corpus Christi career. Abreu had relieved Kevin Chapman in the bottom of the 8th inning with two runners on base, no outs and the score tied at 9. Abreu escaped without allowing a run, setting the stage for his dash around the bases.
Abreu's 17 wins as a Hook ties him with Chance Douglass for the lead in that category in franchise history. Abreu has pitched in 103 games(288 innings) for Corpus Christi since 2009.
