When the Hooks take the field for game three of their series in San Antonio Wednesday night, they will be starting the second half of the Texas League season. The Hooks finished the first half of the season 37-33 in second place in the Texas League South Division. They were four games behind Frisco. The other two Astros' full season affiliates who compete in a split-season format will begin the second half of their season on Thursday night.
Lancaster finished the first half at 37-33 in a three-way tie for first in the California League's South Division. Based on the league's tiebreaker procedures, the JetHawks won't qualify for the play-offs as the first half champion. However, they have two more opportunities to keep playing after Labor Day. A second half championship earns a play-off berth. Also, the team in the division that has the best over-all record without winning the first or second half championship earns a wild-card berth.
Lexington wrapped up their first half with a 39-30 record. However, they finished fourth in the South Atlantic League Divison, 7 1/2 games behind Asheville.
The Astros' AAA affiliate plays in a full-season format league, the Pacific Coast League. Oklahoma City, 42-29, currently leads the Southern Division of the American Conference by 2 1/2 games.
