Right-hander Vincent Velasquez is scheduled to return to the mound for the first time in almost 22 months Monday night when Tri-City begins their 2012 season at the Vermont Lake Monsters. Velasquez is slated to start the contest for Stubby Clapp's squad.
The Astros drafted Velasquez in the second round of the 2010 draft out of high school in Garey, California. After signing for a $655,830 bonus, Velasquez made eight appearance(six starts) for the Greeneville Astros in 2010 and posted a 3.07 ERA. However, he underwent Tommy John surgery after the 2010 season and missed all of 2011. His last professional outing on August 24, 2010 lasted 3 2/3 innings against Princeton at Pioneer Park in Greeneville.
