According to the box score from Thursday's game, the GCL Astros have a new third baseman, and he used to be a pitcher. Raul Rivera played third base for the Astros in Florida today and went 3 for 4 with one double and one RBI. Prior to today, Rivera has always been listed as a pitcher.
He was drafted by the Astros in 2009 as a pitcher out of Puerto Rico. He missed almost all of 2010 and 2011 with injury. He had made three appearances on the mound for the GCL Astros this summer. He pitched four scoreless innings.
NOTE: MiLB.com box score guy has corrected his box score from Thursday. It turns out the 3B was DARWIN Rivera instead of RAUL Rivera. Through Friday's game, Darwin is batting .356 with nine RBI. He spent time with the DSL Astros and Greeneville in 2011. Presumably, RAUL Rivera is still rehabbing as a pitcher.
