If a tweet from Joe Musgrove(@Musgrove23Stros), one of the players received in the recent trade with Toronto, is reliable, Kevin Comer is the Player to Be Named in that trade. The tweet in question from Musgrove this morning makes it pretty clear that he believes Comer(@kevcomer) is coming to the Astros' organization. For the time being, it can seen in the Twitter Widget on the right side of this page.
Comer, a 20 year-old right-handed pitcher, was drafted 57th over-all in 2011 out of high school in New Jersey. He signed for a reported $1.65 million on August 15, 2011, so today would mark the full year since his signing to make the trade official. Comer was ranked as the 17th best prospect in the Toronto system by Baseball America heading into the 2011 season.
Comer has made 10 appearances(seven starts) for Bluefield in the Appalachian League this summer.
He has posted a 3.95 ERA in 43 1/3 innings. In a start against the Astros' affiliate, Greeneville on July 31, Comer allowed one unearned run and seven hits in 4 and 2/3 innings.
